Post-Workout Berry and Nut Butter Recovery Smoothie

Do you finish a workout and feel drained and depleted? If you’ve gotten super sweaty and worked your muscles hard, they need some TLC in order to recover and grow. Feeling hungry is your body’s way of saying "I want to be replenished and refuelled!" What you eat and/or drink post-workout can make a huge difference to your speed of recovery and to the results and performance you see over time.

This smoothie has all the elements of a perfect post-workout concoction. It's loaded with protein, super low in sugar, and elevated with a scoop of Defend Superblend which is packed with antioxidants and adaptogens to fight stress, reduce inflammation and promote recovery. Easy to prep ahead or make post sweat sesh.

  • 1 cup water or milk
  • 2/3 cup frozen mixed berries
  • 1 scoop protein powder of choice
  • 1 scoop JOYÀ Defend Superblend
  • 1 tbsp nut butter of choice
  • optional but recommended toppings: bee pollen, cacao nibs or hemp hearts

pro tip: bee pollen and hemp hearts are an amazing source of protein while cacao nibs add an additional dose of antioxidants. Crunchy toppings make you chew your smoothie for better digestion and in turn, better nutrient absorption.

  1. Add all ingredients (except toppings/mix-ins) to a high-speed blender and blend until smooth and no chunks remain.
  2. Pour into glass(es), optionally add toppings/mix-ins and enjoy!
Pro Tip: Refrigerate any leftovers for up to 24 hours. Alternatively, pour leftovers into an ice cube tray and use to make other smoothies!
