Nature is abundant with foods that nourish the body, and shelves are lined with supplements formulated to improve your health. Functional foods are the best of these two worlds – foods made of real and effective ingredients that benefit body and mind BEYOND their nutritional value. These include ingredients that stimulate digestion, calm the nervous system, increase energy and enhance cognitive function.

Adaptogens are a group of powerful botanicals (including certain herbs and fungi) that work with your body to help increase its resistance to – or “adapt” to – the effects of physical, mental and emotional stress.

Adaptogens also help keep the body operating in "homeostasis" (an optimal, balanced state) by supporting organ and system function. When one or more systems in the body are either weak or overactive, adaptogens “adapt” their actions: either upregulating or downregulating the affected system as needed to help bring it back into a balanced state (much like a thermostat helps bring room temperature back to an optimal level).

Persistent stress can wreak havoc on your body, notably on energy levels and your digestive, immune and reproductive systems, which are in large part controlled by your adrenal system.

Think of adaptogens like a thermostat that regulates important hormones (instead of temperature). As modulators, they help manage the body’s stress response by bringing adrenal hormone output back into balance, much like a thermostat regulates temperature, keeping it from dropping too low or going too high. Because of this moderating effect, it’s beneficial to consume adaptogens daily to strengthen the body’s resilience, and not just when you’re experiencing a high level of stress.

Our antioxidant-rich Superblends are daily functional supplement blends. They combine the highest quality adaptogenic herbs and other wellness-promoting botanicals to create a nutrient-packed powder ready for you to turn into delicious hot or cold wellness lattes, or to supercharge your favourite smoothies or foods!Expertly formulated and chef-crafte with both flavor and function in mind, our blends contain meaningful levels of every superherb and adaptogen used to help deliver each Superblend's functional benefits.And since we believe the body truly thrives on real foods, we only use all-plant and mushroom ingredients - no added sugars or fake sweeteners, flavors, gums, thickeners or other additives. This is one of the reasons we don’t add coconut milk powder to our blends (unfortunately even the “clean” kinds contain tapioca-based maltodextrin to prevent clumping) -- we’d rather leave it to you to add your nutritious milk or plant-based milk of choice!

Unfortunately, the functional food market sees little in the way of quality control standards, which is worrisome. But our mission at JOYÀ is to create effective products that consumers can trust.

When a product is regulated as a “dietary (or herbal) supplement”:

• it must be independently lab tested to confirm max allowable levels of certain heavy metals & microbes
• the manufacturer must follow specified operational regulations and be registered to manufacture dietary supplements
• claims made about the product’s functional health benefits are regulated and must be substantiated

On the other hand, the requirements imposed on regular “food” products purporting to have medicinal properties are less stringent.

Pro tip: Confirming with brands whether they independently lab test their functional products is always a great idea!

We are proud to use some of the highest quality certified organic or wildcrafted medicinal mushrooms available on the market. They are carefully sourced from mountain regions of China, where growers have been cultivating mushrooms for generations (in fact, China is responsible for over 85% of worldwide mushroom production).

The mushrooms in our products are produced by real people on a farm, not in a lab. They’re grown sustainably without agricultural chemicals, in greenhouses with natural lighting and fresh air flow, and using substrate materials native to each particular mushroom -- no sterile laboratories, and no unnatural substrates made of cereal grains or rice.

Note that many products produced in North America are not made from mushrooms but rather mycelium, the mushroom’s root system, which is grown on grains. Since the grain can’t be separated from the mycelium, mycelium products are significantly comprised of starch while containing far less of the active compounds, including beta-glucans. We only use the mushroom (fruiting body) in all our products rather than using the mycelium.

Mushrooms are tested prior to being exported from China for toxins, pesticides, heavy metals, mold, yeast and other microbes, and again by third-party laboratories in North America for these compounds and for medicinal compound levels of beta-glucans.

For example, our sustainably grown organic mushroom extracts are sourced from farms in the mountain regions of China, where growers have been cultivating mushrooms for generations. Our wild-crafted Pine Pollen is gathered in the remote Yunnan Province in Southwestern China at the edge of the Himalayan Mountains. Our Mucuna Pruriens extract, Ashwagandha extract and Moringa, key herbs in Ayurvedic medicine, are all from India. And our sourcing practices extend right across our product lines, including our Chocolates. The delicious, organic Cacao used in our bars is directly traded from farmers in the Dominican Republic.

The possibilities are endless!

Drink Hot: using a handheld frother or blender, blend with hot milk (dairy or plant-based) and/or water. If mixing with a spoon, mix powder with a small amount of hot liquid until a smooth and runny paste forms, and then add remaining hot liquid.

Drink Iced: mix or blend with cold milk (dairy or plant-based) and/or water and add ice. We recommend first dissolving powder into a small amount of hot water to prevent any clumps.

Elixirs: add Superblend to a blender with your choice of hot or cold liquid, healthy fats (such as nut or seed butters, MCT/coconut oil, ghee) and sweetener of choice (such as raw honey or dates) for the ultimate creamy beverage.

Supercharge everything: add to hot or cold coffee and tea, smoothies, protein shakes, yogurt, pancakes, oatmeal… anything goes!

Our Superblends are naturally free of added sugars, but you can add raw honey, maple syrup, dates (if blending) or your sweetener of choice to taste.

If used occasionally, you’ll benefit from the nutrients and depending on the blend, certain functional benefits (e.g.alertness, antioxidants and digestive support). But for other functional benefits such as adaptogenic support and immune support, consistent use is required. You can think of the way functional herbs work like this: just like you need to exercise consistently in order to get fit and see results, similarly, functional herbs have a cumulative effect in the body and require consistent use in order to reap maximum benefit!

Our Superblends are made of only 100% pure botanical powders. Some of these ingredients don't fully dissolve into liquid, and we don't use any starches, synthetic carriers or other chemicals often added to beverage powders to help them emulsify. Sediment won't settle when adding your Superblend to smoothies or mixing into food. But when enjoying as a latte, simply give it a quick stir when the sediment settles to the bottom of your cup. This bit of sediment is chock-full of nutrients and health benefits, so don't let it go to waste!

It’s important to remember that as with any good habit, the benefits of adaptogens are generally experienced after consistent, prolonged use, as the powerful ingredients in our blends nourish your body over time. People do experience certain calming, energizing and other sensations when consuming our Superblends even for the first time, but note that these physiological effects may be due to the other nutrient-dense and functional ingredients in our blends (for example, calming cacao, energizing matcha and digestion-promoting turmeric and spices).

Our Superblends are “dietary supplements” that comply with the applicable FDA rules and guidelines and are manufactured in accordance with the FDA's cGMP (Current Good Manufacturing Practices). Collectively, these requirements cover areas including manufacturing, lab testing, labeling and product claims to ensure product and consumer safety. While dietary supplements are not subject to FDA approval (as are drugs), they are regulated to ensure that manufacturers comply with these requirements.

We are committed to crafting effective, safe and trustworthy products, and all of our Superblends are subject to careful ingredient sourcing and rigorous independent lab testing.

Our Superblends are 100% pure. However, milk powders contain maltodextrin, an artificially produced powder derived from starch (commonly corn, potato or tapioca) which is needed to prevent the powder from clumping. Plus, maltodextrin has been shown to cause gastrointestinal symptoms, and can spike blood sugar levels.

Also, when enjoying Superblends as a latte, since we all have different milk preferences, we’d rather let you use your milk of choice. And milk-free means you can add our Superblends to countless recipes!

Our Superblends are not certified organic. However, they are Non-GMO Project Verified and contain only ingredients that are either certified organic or wild-crafted (i.e. harvested in the wild). They are also tested for pesticide residues (as well as heavy metals, mold and other microbes) by an independent laboratory.

Our Chocolates are not certified organic, but that are made with only certified organic or wild-crafted ingredients.

Nuts, Sesame, Gluten, Wheat, Soy, Dairy

All of our products are considered vegan, and the ingredients used to manufacture our products do not contain nuts, sesame, gluten, wheat, soy or dairy. Some of our products contain coconut.

Our Superblends are made in a facility where other products are produced that do contain allergens. Rigorous measures are taken to avoid contamination of our Superblends. This includes full cleanup and sanitization of the areas and equipment used for our production before running our products.

Our Chocolates, however, are made in a facility that is not free of the foregoing allergens.

Mushrooms

People with mushroom allergies should be cautious when consuming our Superblends that contain mushroom extracts. These extracts could contain very small amounts of salicylates & glutamate. You should talk to your healthcare provider before trying functional mushrooms if you have a mushroom allergy.

Our products are all made with ingredients that are permitted to consume if following the principles of Kashrut. However, our ingredients and products are not certified kosher.

Our products are all made with ingredients that do not contain gluten; however, they are not certified gluten-free.

Our Superblends are made in a facility where other gluten-containing products are produced. Rigorous measures are taken to avoid contamination of our Superblends. This includes full cleanup and sanitization of the areas and equipment used for our production before running our products.

Our Chocolates, however, are made in a facility that is not free of gluten.

All of our products are vegan-friendly. None of our ingredients are derived from an animal.

Our Chocolates are made in a facility that manufactures other products using dairy.

While we cannot make any guarantees, we do take steps to avoid cross-contamination, including full clean-up of the areas and equipment used for our production before running our products.

Never!

Their mild natural sweetness is from the delicious herbs + spices, but we don’t add sweeteners so as not to dictate sweetness level for you. Many customers find the flavor perfectly balanced as-is, but you can add any sweetener of choice if you’ve got a sweet tooth.

We also didn’t want you to worry if you avoid certain sweeteners (e.g. cane sugar, stevia, erythritol)!

Superblends have a shelf life of 24 months from their production date.

Chocolates have a shelf life of 18 months from their production date.

For all products, please check the “best before” date stamped onto your pouch.

We recommend storing in a cool, dry place, out of direct sunlight. While chocolate naturally has an excellent shelf life, keep in mind that we do not use any preservatives and the environment and conditions in which you store your chocolate will affect its stability and freshness.

When it comes to consuming any of our Superblends during pregnancy or while nursing, we always recommend consulting your healthcare practitioner to be safe. This is very important as our Superblends are formulated with potent extracts and herbs that have not been tested extensively for consumption safety in pregnant and nursing women. Unfortunately we cannot give any specific recommendations about which products to take when pregnant or nursing.

Superblends are not formulated for children. We recommend that you speak to your child’s pediatrician or health care provider before giving them JOYÀ’s Superblends.

We don’t recommend using our Superblends with blood thinners, antibiotics or diabetes medications. Clinical studies evaluating herbal supplement-drug interactions are limited and sometimes inconclusive. We always recommend checking in with your healthcare practitioner prior to consuming our Superblends if you are on these or any other medications, or if you are consuming other supplements or natural health products.

When you subscribe for one or more products, you’ll receive a 15% discount on every recurring order of your subscription products. By default, the products will be delivered to you every 30 days. However, you can change delivery frequency, as well as swap products, skip a delivery or pause your membership anytime.

Subscriptions are a great way to keep consistent with your supplement routine and support your wellness - while saving money!

Billing: You will be automatically billed in a recurring fashion for each delivery until you cancel (or unless you pause) your subscription.

Chocolate is not available for subscription, as being heat-sensitive, it cannot be shipped during the hot summer months.

Yes, the Superblends in your subscription can vary as much as you’d like! From your customer portal, you can change your subscribed products (as well as frequency of delivery and quantity) anytime.

Definitely! We suggest simply skipping your next shipment. Once logged in to your account, go to the “Manage” page and select the “Skip Next” button.

Absolutely! You can easily adjust the frequency of your shipments by logging in to your account on our website. (See “How do I manage my subscriptions?”)

We never charge fees for making changes to your subscription! You can change your subscribed products as often as you’d like. In fact, we encourage members to adjust their subscription based on your likes, needs and wellness goals!
